The kind-hearted Tante Marie of yesteryear has found her way into the new Alpine Brasserie concept at the Sunstar Hotel Arosa. But what does Tante Marie have to do with our cuisine? She has shaped our values, which are expressed in the current kitchen creations. The courageous hotelier from Arosa, who won hearts back then with her boldness, warmth and a touch of lavender, lives on in a culinary way at the Sunstar Hotel Arosa.
The Alpine Brasserie stands for exquisite hot and cold cuisine with regional ingredients and attention to detail. Whether it's a beef or wild mushroom tartare, crispy salads, spicy soups, a traditional veal cutlet, a juicy tomahawk steak or a Mediterranean-style sea bass - the selection is manageable and creative at the same time. Vegetarian and vegan dishes are not neglected either. In winter, the menu is expanded with traditional cheese dishes. Discover more taste experiences on our BRASSERIE MENU here

In the idyllic Swiss village of Arosa, nestled among the majestic Alps, stood a charming little hotel run by Tante Marie. The hotel was known not only for its cozy ambiance and breathtaking views of the mountains but above all for Tante Marie herself, a remarkable woman whose courage and warmth had captured the heart of the village.
Even as a young girl, she had dreamed of one day running her own hotel. Tante Marie and her brother Otto, a renowned doctor and the first skier in Arosa, owned a small guesthouse in the village. Tante Marie lovingly took care of the house while Otto spent the mornings treating poor sick villagers for free. In the afternoons, he would race down the fresh snow from Hörnli to the valley on two boards he had received from Norway by carriage.
After a few years, her brother Otto left the guesthouse to open a clinic for sick children nearby. Tante Marie was very frightened. Was she up to the great challenge of running the guesthouse all by herself?
In the village, people shook their heads and whispered that Tante Marie would never manage the guesthouse alone. They said it was only a matter of time before the guesthouse would close and Tante Marie would join her brother. But Tante Marie did not care what people thought.
Years went by, and with hard work, much attention to detail, and an unwavering determination, she transformed the guesthouse into a place where people from all over the world felt welcome. She turned the guesthouse into the most charming and imaginative hotel in the entire region.
Tante Marie was now admired in the village for her generosity, courage, and determination. She had never shied away from running the hotel during tough times, through economic challenges, war, severe winter storms, and troublesome plagues. Time and again, she faced great challenges, but she mastered them with a smile, an unwavering confidence, and a careful management of her money and supplies.
Her passion for stories particularly distinguished Tante Marie. Every evening, when the sun set behind the mountains and the guests gathered around the fireplace, Marie would begin to tell a story. Her tales were about the mountains, brave adventurers, mysterious creatures, and old traditions. The guests listened intently and felt enchanted by Tante Marie's words.
Tante Marie loved warmly welcoming guests, telling them exciting stories, and making everyone feel at home.
Tante Marie's love extended not only to her stories but also to the blind house pig Wilma, her delicious recipes, and the mountain herbs. She particularly loved the lavender bush. She adored it above all else. The hotel was surrounded by fragrant lavender fields, and lavender could be found everywhere—in the gardens, the rooms, and even in the delicious and healthy dishes she prepared and served to the guests. The scent of lavender permeated the hotel, giving the staff and guests a feeling of peace, security, and relaxation.
One gray winter, when particularly strong snowstorms swept over Arosa and made the roads impassable, the guests found themselves snowed in and cut off from the world. It was a time of uncertainty and great fear. During this time, Tante Marie gathered all the guests in the large salon, where a fire crackled in the fireplace. She began to tell one of her famous stories. It was a story about a brave woman who lived in a small village in the Alps and pursued her dream despite all odds. The guests listened intently, and when the story ended, they felt inspired and strengthened. Tante Marie had once again succeeded in warming the hearts of her guests.
In these nights, surrounded by the scent of lavender and the warmth of the fireplace, the guests found comfort and a deep connection to this place. The guests had found more than just accommodation in Tante Marie's hotel; they had found a place where stories lived and dreams came true.
And so, Tante Marie, the brave hotelier from Arosa, remained in the hearts of all those fortunate enough to meet her. Her stories and her indomitable spirit live on in the Sunstar Arosa, a reminder that courage, generosity, warmth, and a touch of lavender make the world a little better.
